When you wish upon a (birthday) star

So, fun fact about me: I love throwing and organizing parties, especially for kids! Imaginations running wild. Laughter all around. Everyone loves their birthday and I love making it extra special. And when it comes to events, I absolutely love a theme. I’ve done a superheroes, pirates and mermaids, ballerinas, Doc McStuffins, and Alice in Wonderland. But this was… different.

Challenge: Throw three children a "most magical place on earth" birthday party. A nine-year-old girl, a six-year-old girl, and a three-year-old boy. The oldest girl wants something like Buzz Lightyear, the middle girl wants everything princess, and the youngest boy wants the mouse! You ready?

Everybody was super excited to walk into princess decorations, Disney-themed table toppers, and princess wear to change into for all the festivities. So we started with Mickey's Ear painting. Kids love to paint, but gearing toward the age range is very important. For little artists seven and under, using a q-tip is better in the way they control the paint. Eight and up, I have found like the brushes because they begin experimenting with shading and blending.

We cleaned the tables to let the partiers enjoy snacks, including Minnie Mouse Cupcakes. They were itching to get done to start their Space Ranger training! They had an extensive schedule of activities to achieve their official Space Ranger certificate that Buzz Lightyear himself signed. The Rocketship Launch was the little astronauts jumping from a cheese mat to a tumbling mat. The Lung Capacity Test (my favorite!) was seeing how many bubbles they could blow in a minute. I utilized dance studio props and materials for lots of activities. A parking cone and hula hoops were used for the Saturn Ring Toss, and a balance beam for the Moonwalk. The Comet Catch was tossing a plush ball for hand/eye coordination... and who doesn't like throwing a ball around?! Finally, a toy Minnie Mouse bowling set was used as the Laser Accuracy Simulator. I do love a theme! I put on a timer, and each partner pair of party-goers had 60 seconds to go to each station. Everyone got their wiggles, jumps, and giggles out. Once everyone wanted to settle for a bit, we sat down for a very close game of Disney bingo. The kids loved hearing the Disney names and characters they knew from movies and shows. And it showed my age for the characters that only the parents knew and tried explaining to them, like John Darling.

Oh my ears, that’s cute!

They proved themselves to infinity and beyond

Lastly, they engaged in one more craft. Everyone got to design and create their own princess crown. Oh, what imagination some rhinestones and Elmer's glue can make! Thanks for reading, and some helpful links are below if you're inspired to rise to your next pixie-dust challenge.
