Building the war room that I passionately prayed for
Gosh, the addition to our house seems like it has taken forever. Fortunately, it has moved relatively smoothly with a minimum number of hiccups. I needed to create a space for everyone in the house to make it feel like home.
I've never had anything new built for myself, so I also needed to create a space to meet my needs and wants. With a blank canvas, that task can be overwhelming.
I wanted my new library/office space nearby, so we moved a new mini-Megan headquarters space off the bedroom. I designed these shelves for books, journals, and petite and tall items. I am also over the moon to have a fully stocked coffee bar in my space. My morning reading and devotional time is a beautiful, fully immersed experience with a warm cup in hand and all the cozy amenities. I still wanted to keep a vintage, simple vibe but lean away from the farmhouse feel and go with a more retro, academic look.
I also wanted to make this nook my giant prayer closet and war room. As you might have read in previous posts, I am on fire for the Lord. I love love love reading my Bibles (currently the new revised standard version of Harper Collins Study Bible. Its soooo good about breaking down what the harder to understand scripture translates to.), spiritual warfare books (just finished Revival Makers. Whew, a fiery little book that dives into the power of prayer, seeking the Lord with everything, and chasing God to be the revival people are hungry for), and resources that are full of the Holy Spirit. I wanted a place where I could regularly meet God, tell him how much I love Him, and pray for those on my heart and mind.
So, this place had to be a reflection of God that is living within me.
I found the best deal on this awesome Balta Levine geometric rug at Ashley Furniture online. It seems simple yet exciting and coordinates beautifully with the blush colors of the room. It adds a touch of whimsy and inspiration to the room. I added this trendy mushroom or flowerpot lamp, whichever you want to call it. It's portable, activated by touch, and super modern looking. The lamp was my first ever Temu item ordered and my first purchase for my personal space. I loved the look and the price! Thanks, Temu! I kept my eyes scanning everywhere for terracotta pots like these pictured below. I spent only $25 on this large, eye-catching vase at Lowes. It adds to the earthy flavor of the room. I can't wait to put my daffodils in it!
Vintage and homemade art is where it's at. Chris and I found these goose stamp prints at a Goodwill in Murrells Inlet. When you see only 12,000 exist in the world, and you scoop up one at the Goodwill(!), giving you that rare piece at home on your walls makes you feel good to give it a home where it's much appreciated.
I got myself a big ol' swivel chair, y'all! I curl right up in this plush oversized seat with my Bible, the newest book (currently, “Klara and the Sun”), or my computer to get some dance and studio work done. This chair makes me enjoy it that much more! It's like my own big, comfy couch. (Do yall remember that show?) It's one of the brightest spots in the room.
I love some trinkets! I have some bumpy amber-colored glass housing all my amusing bookmarks. Metal caged baskets, scented candles, pottery from my travels, and a fantastic turtle shell bowl; modern and fiery, these little additions create even more depth and warmth in this space. One of my favorite touches is the door handles. These heavy glass vintage knobs came from... nope, not an antique store, but Hobby Lobby! And with their 50% off sale, this was the chef's kiss to finish this old soul of a place that is Megan through and through.

Thanks for touring my space! Comment your favorite section of the room or what else I could add to elevate the atmosphere.
K Bye
